The process of giving an allowance of Rs. 5,000 to selected categories including Samurdhi recipients and low income earners commenced this morning. This is against the backdrop of some Grama Niladhari and Samurdhi Officer Trade Unions stating that they will not support it.
The Sri Lanka Grama Niladhari Association stated that they are withdrawing from the payment of the allowance of Rs. 5,000 due to the irregularity of this program.
However, the President of the Sri Lanka United Gampaha Grama Niladhari Association Keerthi Tissa stated that the payment of Rs. 5,000 will be made by the officials of his association.

I have always admired people who make their living through their trade, craft or art. To operate at a level where people will pay you to build, mend, repair, invent, create and fashion for them you are truly gifted people.
Amongst these talented and very intelligent people are the tradies we rely on every day of our lives to keep us all on an even keel.
Can you imagine what life would be like if there were no plumbers, builders, electricians, mechanics, fitters, painters and numerous other trades where young people have spent years of their youth indentured to a master tradesman or craftsman to learn a calling?
Community Brewery Ventures in Newton
The station got a facelift over the past year. The front of the building is painted blue and gray and a sleek bar was added in the back. A sign on the building represents its new habitants â Community Brewing Ventures, a beer brewing collaborative started by the founder of D9 Brewing.
CBV, though led by D9 founder Andrew Durstewitz, wonât just brew D9 beers, Director of Marketing Megan Miller said. The goal of the brewing collaborative is to help small breweries around the country grow their audience and spread their reach. Currently, seven breweries, including D9, are on board. CBV hopes to add many more partners, Miller said.
With only a few overlaps in the markets, there are no layoffs expected, bank officials said.
Both banks boards of directors have unanimously approved the deal, with Cadence shareholders receiving 0.70 shares of BancorpSouth for each Cadence share they own. In addition, Cadence shareholders will get a one-time special cash dividend of $1.25 per share once the merger is completed.
The value to Cadence shareholders is about $3 billion, and the total market value of the combined company is pegged at $6 billion.
BancorpSouth shareholders will own about 55% and Cadence shareholders will own approximately 45% of the combined company.
BancorpSouth Chairman and CEO Dan Rollins will be the combined company s chairman and CEO, and Cadence CEO Paul Murphy will be executive vice chairman.
